Keep your fitness going all year round
Fitness can be fickle. You may be motivated to start the New Year determined to be more proactive about getting fit and staying fit. But how will you keep that motivation to move going when it feels like the winter will never end, when you’re stressed at work and when you’re hugely busy at home?
Your desire to exercise in your local Xercise4Less gym may wax and wane but your fitness journey doesn’t have to gradually peter out as the year progresses. If you follow some of our tips below, you’ll find it easier to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle for the full year. Read on for how you can stay motivated and active as you keep your fitness going all year round!
Work out your why
Staying motivated to keep fit all year round starts with working out your reasons for wanting to get fitter in the first place. What will fuel your motivation to exercise even when you’d prefer to curl up on the sofa? Think about a reason to go to the gym that is valuable in your daily life. Will a fitness session reduce your stress? Can you make some new friends in a group exercise class? Will a tough workout on the spin bike provide you with increased energy for work? Do you need to shed some excess weight? The reason for your fitness drive is personal to you. You don’t have to share it with anyone else, but you will be more successful in prioritising time to exercise if you really know why you’re going to the gym.

Stand with your legs straight and your arms to your sides. Jump up and spread your feet beyond hip-width apart while bringing your arms above your head, nearly touching. Jump again, lowering your arms and bringing your legs together. Return to your starting position and repeat to burn off the seasonal excess.
